The Regal Royal Pair

I just love Rose's! My son and I are rose growing gardener's....He is much better at it than I.
I consider myself a real 'green' rose 'grower'!  I experimented with the little miniature roses you buy in the grocery store.  I had two and managed to keep them thriving and then out into a garden pot..they are doing really well.  I ordered two sets of the 'Regal Royal Pair' and gave one to my son and daughter-in-law for their wedding anniversary.  Altho it isn't until September, they can enjoy the rose's for this summer.  These are Tea Roses....so for winter they have to be coddled and carefully looked after.  I have wintered the tea rose over before in my garage that was not heated.  I tucked it close to the house where it would be sheltered.  Cut it back some, gave it a few drops of water and swathed it in tons of newspaper...then covered it with plastic over the newspaper and then covered with a thinner blanket.
Over the winter I would peek at it from time to time....and then about the first week in March I took the blanket off.....end of March....off came the plastic.....in April depending on the warmth of the month, I took off most of the newspaper and set it by the 'garage door window' to begin to warm it up......then you could see the green come alive....I trimmed it up and slowly would let the sun look after it....I did that for four years and had the most beautiful Tea Rose for spring time to set on my front step........was fun to see how long I could do this......The fifth spring I gave it to my son with instructions.....and after getting it to begin to come alive, a surprise snow storm finished the tea rose......
